This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the move of the
Original Broadway production of the LEONARD BERNSTEIN, BETTY COMDEN and ADOLPH GREEN musical comedy "ON THE TOWN" to the 44th Street Theatre in New York City. (The show opened December 28th, 1944 at New York's Adelphi Theatre, moved to the 44th Street Theatre on June 5th, 1945 and ran for 462 performances.) ..... This production launched the careers of several individuals who would be instrumental in shaping the future of the Broadway musical: LEONARD BERNSTEIN, BETTY COMDEN, ADOLPH GREEN and JEROME ROBBINS. ..... DETAILS: Advertising handbills (heralds) were distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows. This single page, two-sided handbill measures 5 7/8" X 8 7/8" inches and includes wonderful graphics and production credits on the front and excerpts from a number of New York reviews and a ticket order form on the backside. The notation about the show's transfer was added after the original flyers were printed ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this rare flyer is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
