This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting theNational Tour engagement of the DOROTHY and DuBOSE HEYWARD play "MAMBA'S DAUGHTERS" at the Grand Opera House in Chicago, Illinois. (The production opened January 3rd, 1939 at New York's Empire Theatre and ran for 162 performances, closing in May 1939 for a hiatus and national tour. The play would return to New York's Broadway Theatre on March 23rd, 1940 for an additional 17 performances.) ..... The play starred the incomparable ETHEL WATERS as "Hagar" in her dramatic debut and featured GEORGIA BURKE, MAUDE RUSSELL, FREDI WASHINGTON, ROBERT THOMSEN, WILLIE BRYANT, J. This single page, two-sided handbill measures 5 7/8" X 8 7/8" inches and includes a wonderful photo of ETHEL WATERS on the front and production credits and excerpts from a number of New York reviews on the backside ..... CONDITION: This rare handbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
