    Description

Ancient Luristan Bronze Double Headed Pendant.
A spectacular double-ended Luristan animal pendant of a good size. Made of moulded bronze, this pendant features two horse-like creatures, conjoined from the body. The horses have exaggerated features, with large eyes and prominent snouts, leading into a fine body and slender legs. Linear patterns on the characteristically elongated neck are suggestive of bridles, and the chest area features incised decoration. The pendant features a thick loop for suspension, and blue-green patination from long-term burial in the earth.
    Date: Circa 1st millennium BC.
Fine condition. Some green patination and earthly encrustations.
This item is listed to the best of my knowledge. I believe it is authentic, but the origin is unknown. It was acquired from the estate of John Kendrick II, an avid artifact enthusiast, with an enormous collection of authenticated artifacts. Some of his items were authenticated and sold to a variety of reputable dealers, however this item is untested and unauthenticated. The pieces without background information have ended up on eBay for a tiny fraction of the price. The listing details are a conclusion of my own knowledge and research but I am not an archeologist. Proper testing can be done and are potentially valuable.
